Serendipity

Q: How long has Serendipity been in Fairhaven? How did you come up with your business name?

Serendipity has been a proud part of the Fairhaven community since October 2011—14 wonderful years and counting. We’re actually the third owners of the shop, and while we didn’t choose the name ourselves, we think it couldn’t be more perfect. As a consignment store, our customers often stumble upon that just-right piece they didn’t know they were looking for. It’s a truly serendipitous experience.

Q: I love that you have "An eclectic collection for style lovers of all ages." What are some of the favorite items you’ve had in the store?

We’re drawn to pieces that tell a story—items that capture a moment in time or reflect someone’s unique style. Whether it’s a vintage leather jacket, a handmade accessory, or a designer dress with a past, we love curating finds that spark joy and nostalgia.

Q: How has the community of Fairhaven supported your store?

Fairhaven’s support has been the heartbeat of Serendipity. As a consignment retailer, we rely on our community not just to shop, but to consign and share their treasures. During challenging times—especially following recent break-ins—the outpouring of encouragement from fellow business owners and loyal customers has been incredible. Fairhaven is a close-knit network of small businesses, and we’re all invested in each other’s success.

Q: Tips for fellow businesses to stay safe this fall:

  •             Trust your instincts. If something feels off—whether it’s a customer’s behavior or something unusual outside—talk with your staff and stay alert.
  •             Limit overnight cash. We no longer keep cash in the store after hours and have clear signage stating that. Removing the temptation for quick cash can be a strong deterrent.
  •             Stay connected. Lean on your neighboring businesses. Sharing information and looking out for one another makes a big difference.
